Justin Gaethje Makes Fun Of Ilia Topuria's Divorce — Topuria FIRES BACK!

Justin Gaethje has turned up the heat ahead of a potential clash with Ilia Topuria after making comments about Topuria's recent divorce. What started as typical fight promotion quickly became personal, with Gaethje taking aim at Topuria's private life. The remarks sparked a strong reaction from fans and appeared to get under Topuria's skin, leading to a fiery response on social media. As tensions continue to rise between the two stars, many believe the rivalry is becoming one of the most heated storylines in the UFC.

What Did Justin have to say about Ilia's Ex wife?

Justin Gaethje sparked controversy when he took a personal shot at Ilia Topuria during a recent interview, saying, "All that guy is, is a gimmick. He calls himself the king. He thinks he's a God. What an annoying little bastard. I couldn't imagine being in a room with him for 30 minutes listening to him talk about himself. All I can say is this: I would leave him. That's all I'm saying. No way I would put up with his sh*t." (via @FOXSportsAUS).

The comments immediately caught Topuria's attention and appear to have pushed the rivalry to another level. In response, Topuria made it clear that there is no longer any respect between the two heading into their upcoming fight. While Gaethje believes he did nothing wrong and was simply speaking his mind, Topuria has taken the remarks personally, adding even more tension to an already heated matchup. What was once a competitive fight has now become a genuine grudge match, with both fighters looking to settle their differences inside the Octagon.

How will this effect the fight?

This rivalry could either hurt or benefit Justin Gaethje when the fight finally takes place. For the most part, Ilia Topuria has never entered a title fight with genuine bad blood toward his opponent. Charles Oliveira is a respected legend of the sport and one of the most beloved fighters on the roster. Alexander Volkanovski and Topuria had some playful back-and-forth leading up to their fight, but there was always mutual respect between them. Even Max Holloway, despite being constantly targeted by Topuria's trash talk, refused to cross any lines or engage in a personal feud.

That is what makes this situation different. Topuria appears to have taken Gaethje's comments personally, and that could affect how he approaches the fight. Rather than sticking to a disciplined game plan, there is a chance he comes into the Octagon looking to prove a point and take Gaethje's head off.

Ironically, that may play directly into Gaethje's strengths. Justin has built his career on standing in the pocket, trading shots, and thriving in chaotic firefights. While Topuria is known for his knockout power, many fans forget that he is also an elite grappler who has had tremendous success on the ground throughout his career. However, he rarely uses that advantage unless his opponent forces the fight there.

Overall Thoughts

Gaethje has never fought for an undisputed title against someone with Topuria's combination of striking and grappling. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira found success against him largely through their ground games, while Topuria has the ability to threaten him everywhere. If Topuria allows his emotions to dictate the fight and chooses to engage in a pure striking battle, Gaethje could have a better chance than many people expect. Outside of the Josh Emmett fight, Topuria has rarely been involved in prolonged stand-and-bang wars, and Gaethje is arguably a bigger and more dangerous puncher than anyone Topuria has faced. If Topuria abandons the game plan and fights the type of fight Gaethje wants, don't be surprised if Justin pulls off the upset on Sunday night.
